China produced six million college graduates this year, but not enough jobs for them
Last year, Chinese universities produced over 6 million graduates. Despite China's rapidly growing economy, there are not enough good professional jobs to absorb the influx of highly educated young adults. Many recent graduate students move to the large Chinese cities, where they often struggle to find a job if their families are not politically or financially connected.
Strangely, the people in highest demand are not college graduates, but uneducated villagers who are flocking to factory towns to make goods for export.
The NY Times has an interesting report about the life and struggles of current graduate students in China: China’s Army of Graduates Faces Struggle - NYTimes.com
